Want to read the Bible in a year? Here are four tips that can help

The Bible is a big book. Well, a collection of books, actually. Still, the point remains that it is a long piece of literature that can be a bit of a drag to read through at times. Everything the Bible teaches is important and has value, but some sections of lineage and laws can be hard to get through, which causes many people to put the Bible down.

Are you interested in reading the entire Bible to finally become familiar with its many stories about God and humanity? If so, you may want to try reading the whole Bible in a year. Here are four tips to help you get started.

1. Make a plan

Once you set the goal to read the Bible in a year, it’s time to make a plan. You’ll need some sort of concrete schedule or curriculum in place. If you decide to just “pick it up and read it during some free time,” you’ll likely find that you’re not making much progress and you may eventually forget about your goal.

Make a schedule. Set aside time to read. Set aside time to reflect as well. With a little planning and dedication, reading the Bible in a year can be a rewarding experience.

2. Use helpful tools

Reading the Bible in a year is such a common goal that there are many plans and tools people have made that can help you accomplish the task. There are guided books and plans and even apps that you can use that set a framework for how much text to read for a certain amount of time per day.

One free app, the Beginning to End Bible Reading Plan, contains Scripture bits that you can read for 10 minutes per day to accomplish reading the Bible in a year.

3. Take notes or journal

Reading the Bible for the sake of reading the Bible doesn’t amount to much. The Bible is a holy text full of stories about God and humanity. You should be engaging with the Bible as a living text, meaning its stories and lessons are still relevant to us today.

One way you can stay engaged in your reading is to take notes or journal on your reflections afterward.

4. Read with others

Do you have friends or family who are also interested in reading through the entire Bible? Invite them to join you in this undertaking. This can help keep you motivated to continue your reading during the times when you’re feeling exhausted by it.

You may not be able to sit and read together every day, but you can schedule times to meet up and discuss your progress or what you’re learning in your readings.
