Four self care tips for your mental health

When it comes to taking care of your health, it’s just as important to care for your mind as it is for your body. However, taking care of your mind may be a foreign concept to you if you’ve never practiced it before. To help, here are some steps for caring for your mental health and improving your daily outlook on life.

Note: When we refer to “self care tips for mental health,” we mean caring for your mental health in general. If you feel like you’re struggling with a breakdown or are having suicidal thoughts, please get in contact with professionals who know how to help you get through what you’re experiencing. There is hope. Never give up.

1. Take care of your body

Yeah, you came here for tips on how to take care of your mind, but actually, taking care of your body plays a big role in taking care of your mind. Regular exercise and physical activity releases chemicals in your body that can release endorphins, which are chemicals in your body that help reduce stress.

Plus, exercising can help take your mind off anything that is causing stress, especially if it is a fun activity. For example, going on a hike or rock climbing are physical activities that are also fun and distracting.

2. Socialize

Maintaining close relationships is a key part of your well-being. This may be difficult when life is busy or if you are in a period of transition — for example, graduating from college and moving away can make socialization a challenge. However, making time and putting energy into building relationships with others can help maintain positive mental health.

How much time you want to put into being around others is different for everyone. People who are more introverted are more quickly fulfilled from social interaction than people who are extroverted.

3. Acknowledge your emotions

It’s possible to feel mentally drained if you are ignoring or bottling up your emotions. If there is something you are sad or angry about, you need to acknowledge your feelings so you can process them.

It may be hard, but this is even better if you have a partner or close friend whom you can confide in to help you process your emotions.

4. Take care of your spiritual life

Did you know that exploring your spiritual side of life can nurture a healthier lifestyle? You might not be interested in following a particular religion, and you may not even believe in a higher power, but seeking a deeper sense of meaning, purpose or connection with everything around you can help your mental health.

Centerpoint Church is ready to walk with you on your faith journey

At Centerpoint, our community believes in purpose and passion, and we would love to walk with you on your journey in finding yours. We are currently going through a new sermon series titled “To Hell With Normal.” It’s all about redefining what we consider normal in life as we seek to make our lives more like the way Jesus would have them to be.

Do you want to grow in your faith, or are you simply curious about who this Jesus guy is? You’re not alone. We encourage you to listen to our series online and welcome you to come to one of our Sunday morning services in Valrico, Florida.
