Why we need to view worship as a way of life
Many people love attending church services because of the worship music. And we admit, we love singing praises to God with a body of believers. However, worship through song isn’t the only way to worship or praise God. Instead, we need to view worship as a way of life.
Why we need to view worship as a way of life
“God—you’re my God!
I can’t get enough of you!
I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God,
traveling across dry and weary deserts.
So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open,
drinking in your strength and glory.
In your generous love I am really living at last!
My lips brim praises like fountains.
I bless you every time I take a breath;
My arms wave like banners of praise to you.”
Psalm 63:1-4 (MSG)
The psalmist got it right in this passage from Psalm 63. The writer understands that, while music may be one way to worship the Lord, it is not the only way. When you can’t get enough of God, when you have worked up a hunger and thirst for Him, then you live your life as a form of worship.
What this means is that you strive to make everything you do an act of worship. What does this look like? Well, it can look different for everyone.
Some examples may include praying more regularly, serving others, being more humble, giving to those in need, and finding ways to love your neighbors and your enemies. In other words, when we strive to live a life in the example of Jesus, we are making our very lives an act of worship!
Of course, not everyone is in a place where they want to live a life like this. And that’s OK! God understands better than anyone that none of us are perfect. He doesn’t expect you to get it all correct in exchange for salvation. We have that. However, it does please Him when we try to become more like Jesus and strive to make the world a better place for all creation.
