Embracing the value of vulnerability in the modern world

Not to oversimplify things based on what generation someone was born in, but people from the baby boomer generation are notorious for holding their cards closer than they need to. Many boomers are undignified when talking about simple subjects about age, as though admitting how old they are somehow diminishes their value or is too frightening to consider.

Folks, the other generations aren’t exactly saints either, but there has been a positive movement in vulnerability as time goes on that we need to continue to embrace.

The value of vulnerability

Vulnerability is our willingness to take risks and expose ourselves emotionally. It is the explicit opposite of pride — which, by the way Christians, is highlighted as a sin 58 times in the Bible ... about 52 times more often than homosexuality. Just sayin’.

The point is, our society for too long has embraced this idea of personal pride. We fancy ourselves too great or too untouchable. We can’t admit when we’re hurt, scared or lonely. It’s why mental health issues have often led to self-harm. It’s why people let distances grow between each other instead of forming deeper connections.

It’s time to give up on these outdated ideals rooted in pride and to give vulnerability a shot. It might just be what the world needs to become a better place with a brighter future as God intended.

Centerpoint Church is ready to walk with you on your faith journey

At Centerpoint, our community believes in purpose and passion, and we would love to walk with you on your journey in finding yours. We are currently going through a new sermon series titled “To Hell With Normal.” It’s all about redefining what we consider normal in life as we seek to make our lives more like the way Jesus would have them to be.

Do you want to grow in your faith or are simply curious about who this Jesus guy is? You’re not alone. We encourage you to listen to our series online and welcome you to come to one of our Sunday morning services in Valrico, Florida.
