Why the meaning of Easter Sunday is still important in modern Christianity

April is drawing near, and you know what that means: time for chocolate eggs, bunny-shaped marshmallows and people in bunny suits in malls giving our children something to think about in their nightmares. Of course, we’re talking about Easter.

Modern Easter festivities are fun for the family (except for the traumatized children on the Easter bunny’s lap), but it’s important that we don’t lose sight of the true meaning of Easter Sunday. This is the season in which we remember and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

Why it’s important to remember the meaning of Easter Sunday

One could make the case that Easter is a more important Christian holiday than Christmas, which celebrates the birth of Jesus. Everybody is born and has a birthday. However, not everybody rose from the dead and appeared to a number of witnesses as He foretold. This is exactly what Jesus did on what we recognize today as Easter.

The Resurrection is at the very core of Chrisitian faith. Without the Resurrection, everything Jesus taught is just a bunch of nice morals for how we should behave toward one another. However, by defeating death and rising from the grave, Jesus affirms His divinity to witnesses and gives hope to His promises to us that He will be our advocate in the afterlife so that we may join Him in everlasting life.

How wonderful is that?

This is the true meaning of Easter Sunday. Try to take some time to reflect on the significance of this meaning. Even if you’re not a person of faith, we encourage you to take a moment this Easter to learn more about who Jesus is, how He taught us to live and how the Resurrection is the greatest event to have happened in history.

Centerpoint Church is ready to walk with you on your faith journey

At Centerpoint, we think it’s fun to enjoy all the chocolate and hiding eggs and terrifying children with giant man-bunnies. However, we believe it’s important to keep the true meaning of Easter Sunday in our hearts and to dedicate this holiday to reflecting on that. We’d love to join you on your faith journey this Easter if you’re looking to grow closer to the Lord or have questions about what it means to authentically follow Jesus. We hope to meet you at one of our three services on Sunday morning in Valrico, Florida.
