Trusting God when you don't understand why you should
Many Scriptures in the Bible teach us to trust the Lord. However, this isn't always easy. The real world is full of pain. Bad people win. Natural disasters destroy communities. Diseases kill. It can all be a bit overwhelming, especially when troubles strike your own life. In moments like these, trusting God can seem pointless. But this is far from the truth.
All things are for good
“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”
Romans 8:26-28 (MSG)
As horrible as things may seem at points, it’s important to remind ourselves that God is working everything toward ultimate good. This reminder may not immediately make you feel better or more willing to trust God, but it’s a step in gaining perspective of God’s plan and building your relationship with Him.
God works in mysterious ways
You may have heard this a lot when you were a child. It’s some Christian parents’ favorite way of explaining away mysteries to curious children. You may get tired of hearing people say this in the face of frustrating events. However, it’s true.
Even as adults, we need to remind ourselves that God works in mysterious ways. We often try too hard to understand Him, His teachings, His plan … we can forget that He is ultimately the greatest mystery and that He works in mysterious ways. It’s important to remember this when you’re having difficulty trusting Him.
