An unhealthy schedule can lead to an unhealthy soul

At Centerpoint, we talk a lot about the need for people to give themselves a break. This is an important issue because our constant drive to succeed and our incredibly busy schedules are destroying our identities and wearing us all down.

We have unhealthy schedules. We are constantly busy with work, education and other responsibilities that leave us little time to rest or invest in ourselves. As a result, our mental health suffers and our spiritual life declines. We lose touch with ourselves and lose touch with God, who is ready to be our source of hope, rest and wisdom if we would only reach out to Him for it.

We all need to settle down a little bit

There is nothing wrong with having ambition and wanting to be successful. However, the issue is the way we pursue it. We often operate for acceptance. We want to achieve or be successful to find value in ourselves or how we perceive ourselves to be valuable to others.

However, we should operate from the perspective that we are already valuable. Jesus has already accepted us; He does not require us to work for it or earn it. When we remember this, we can give ourselves a break and stop stressing ourselves to perform or impress.

Yes, we should all want to improve and be better, but we shouldn’t have to sacrifice our happiness, mental health and spirituality for it. If this is the pace you’re living at, you should know it’s OK to slow down. Continue to pursue success, but change your pace and enjoy the process. Make more free time for rest. Spend more time in prayer or in God’s Word growing in faith and wisdom. Spend more time socializing with your friends and family.

Do you feel like you’re constantly overwhelmed by your busy life? It’s OK to say no and recognize that your soul is depleted. Give yourself the rest and space you need to recover instead of pushing yourself beyond your capacity to feel worthy of something.

Centerpoint Church is ready to walk with you on your faith journey

At Centerpoint, our community believes in purpose and passion, and we would love to walk with you on your journey in finding yours. We are currently going through a new sermon series titled “To Hell With Normal.” It’s all about redefining what we consider normal in life as we seek to make our lives more like the way Jesus would have them to be.

Do you want to grow in your faith or are you simply curious about who this Jesus guy is? You’re not alone. We encourage you to listen to our series online and welcome you to come to one of our Sunday morning services in Valrico, Florida.
