The cost of our frantic pace of life

Are you one of the many people who feel busy or overwhelmed all day? We get it. Adults have so many responsibilities, including work, education and caring for their families. Before you know it, feeling busy and overwhelmed becomes a normal part of life.

But what if we were to tell you that this is not normal?

What if what we consider to be normal is actually what is causing us to feel overwhelmed, anxious or stressed? We need to collectively take a moment to examine what we consider normal and challenge it with a new pace of life that is healthier for ourselves and those we love.

How a frantic pace affects your life

Our version of normal is killing our awareness:

  • We lose awareness of ourselves when we are surrounded by so much noise (social media, anyone?).

  • We lose awareness of our lives when we stop thinking about what we’re doing and why, and focus only on making ends meet instead.

  • We lose awareness of God when we fail to make time to listen to Him in prayer or pursue Him through His Word.

Here’s what we all need to understand: What we give attention to, directs us. Everything that gets our attention determines our lives. Everything that does not get our attention determines our lives. We need to be aware of what we do and don’t give attention to and how it affects our lives.

You may find that you’re chasing a life you don’t really want. Now, please hear us out. We’re not saying we all need to examine ourselves and come to the conclusion that we’re unhappy with life. Rather, we all need to examine ourselves and identify the parts of life that make us unhappy. Then we need to work on changing that.

Is your work causing a ton of stress? It might be time to find another job. Do you feel like you’re losing connection with your family? It might be time to make more intentional family time.

Can you think about what is “normal” in your life that you’d like to change? Start thinking of ways to make that change happen. And we understand it might be hard given your individual circumstances (for example, you might not like your job but have limited options for alternatives), but we encourage you to not give up and look for a better way in every situation.

Centerpoint Church is ready to walk with you on your faith journey

At Centerpoint, our community believes in purpose and passion, and we would love to walk with you on your journey in finding yours. We are currently going through a new sermon series titled “To Hell With Normal.” It’s all about redefining what we consider normal in life as we seek to make our lives more like the way Jesus would have them to be.

Do you want to grow in your faith or are you simply curious about who this Jesus guy is? You’re not alone. We encourage you to listen to our series online and welcome you to come to one of our Sunday morning services in Valrico, Florida.
