Why it’s important for us to talk about mental health

Neglecting mental health leads to an increase in stress, anxiety, depression and other issues that can negatively affect a person's life. Unfortunately, many people’s mental health needs have long gone unnoticed because of stigma in society that prevents people from talking about it.

Mental health stigma is slowly breaking down, but it is still a problem that we all need to fight to overcome to help save lives. Take a moment to explore with us why it’s important to talk about mental health.

Talking about mental health helps fight stigma

As we’ve mentioned, talking about mental health on a regular basis helps remove stigma. Removing stigma can help make it easier for people to access the health care they need for mental illness without shame or embarrassment barring them from doing so.

Talking about mental health shows people they are not alone

Someone struggling with a mental illness may feel isolated, alone and misunderstood. Amplifying the conversation about mental health helps show people that they are not the only ones who have gone through what they are going through. It shows them that help is available and that it is possible to find hope.

Talking about mental health helps encourage care and support

Talking about mental health not only helps encourage someone who needs help to seek it, but it also helps people in their lives to build a support system. People who previously bought into the myths associated with stigma can change their views and become allies in someone’s battle with mental illness.

Do you want to grow in your faith, or are you simply curious about who this Jesus guy is? You’re not alone. We encourage you to listen to our series online and welcome you to come to one of our Sunday morning services in Valrico, Florida.
