Three alternatives to traditional church you may want to try

The church’s role of prevalence in society is changing. Church membership in the United States has hit an all-time low and doesn't appear to show signs of strong recovery. Depending on who you ask, this is either a good or bad thing. However, there are many left in the middle who desire to be part of a community of believers but cannot find a place to call home.

Thankfully, there are alternatives to traditional church you can try that may feel better suited for you.

1. Nondenominational church

If you’re struggling to find a denomination whose views align with your own, why not look for a nondenominational church instead? Nondenominational churches welcome people from a variety of backgrounds. They don’t operate off of the guidelines of a large, mainstream denomination. Rather, they are a space for people with a variety of Christian (and sometimes, non-Christian) beliefs.

2. House church

Many Christian groups have decided to hold church gatherings in their homes instead of a formal setting. This is done in part to reflect the behavior of the early church, but also to help foster a more relaxed and open environment where fellowship may feel more free.

3. Meditation and spirituality

If you’re not ready to find a church and call it home yet, it might be because you’re at a crossroads in your own belief system. This is totally natural and should be explored, not ignored.

We encourage you to take time if you need it to explore your own spirituality. Do some soul searching and meditation. Ask hard questions and seek answers. When you’re ready to continue your journey with people again, you can find an alternative church that will welcome you!

At Centerpoint, our community believes in purpose and passion, and we would love to walk with you on your journey in finding yours. We are currently going through a new sermon series titled “To Hell With Normal.” It’s all about redefining what we consider normal in life as we seek to make our lives more like the way Jesus would have them to be.

Do you want to grow in your faith, or are you simply curious about who this Jesus guy is? You’re not alone. We encourage you to listen to our series online and welcome you to come to one of our Sunday morning services in Valrico, Florida.
